What is a QR code label?
A QR code label is a scannable label that connects your physical box, bin, trunk, or storage container with its digital inventory inside Elephant Trax.
Each QR code works like a unique identity for one box. After you assign a QR code to a box, Elephant Trax links that code with the box details, item photos, item names, notes, keywords, location, category, and other saved information.
Later, when you scan the QR code from the app, you can quickly see what is inside that box without opening it physically.
How do I assign a QR code to a box?
After uploading your item photos and adding item details, continue to the QR Setup step.
Select the items you want to attach to a box. You can select all items or choose individual items. Then tap QR Setup and choose Assign QR Code.
Next, scan the Elephant Trax QR code label using your phone camera. After scanning, you can add or confirm box details such as:
- Box label
- Location
- Category
- Notes
- Custom fields
Once saved, the QR code will be connected to that specific box. You can then place the QR code label on your physical box, bin, trunk, or storage container.
Can I reuse a QR code?
Yes, you can reuse a QR code, but each QR code can only represent one box at a time.
If the QR code is already connected to an existing box, scanning it may show the current box details and the items already linked with that QR code. If you want to use the same QR code for a new box, you can delete or flush the existing items and box details linked with that QR code first.
After clearing the existing QR code information, you can use the same QR code as a new box and attach new items, photos, notes, location, category, custom fields, and other box details.
Please review carefully before deleting or flushing existing QR code data, because this action may remove the previous items and information connected to that QR code. Once the QR code is cleared, it can be assigned again as a fresh box.
What happens if I scan the wrong QR code?
If you scan the wrong QR code, Elephant Trax may show the box details already connected to that code.
Before saving any changes, carefully review the box label, location, category, notes, and item details shown on the screen. If the QR code is already linked with another box, the app may ask whether you want to overwrite the existing details or keep the current details.
If it is not the QR code you want to use, do not overwrite the information. Go back and scan the correct QR code label.
How do I replace a damaged QR code?
If a QR code label is damaged and cannot be scanned properly, you can assign a new QR code to the same box.
Open the box details in ElephantTrax and choose the option to update or assign a QR code. Scan the new QR code label and save the changes.
After saving, place the new QR code label on your physical box or container. The new QR code will now be connected to that box and its saved inventory details.
How do I print QR codes from the app?
To print QR codes, open the ElephantTrax app and go to the Print QR Code or QR Code Package option.
First, you need to buy a digital QR code package from inside the app. After purchasing the digital QR codes, you do not need to wait for any physical delivery. Your QR codes will be available instantly, and you can print them from your side whenever you are ready.
Once printed, attach the QR code labels to your boxes, bins, trunks, or storage containers. After attaching the label, open the ElephantTrax app, scan the QR code, and assign it to the correct box.
This allows you to start organizing your boxes immediately without waiting for shipped QR code labels.

After you receive or print your QR codes, open the Elephant Trax app, scan the QR code, and assign it to the correct box. Once assigned, that QR code will be linked with your saved box and item details.
Can I use my own QR code stickers?
Elephant Trax works best with QR codes created or supported by the Elephant Trax system.
We recommend using Elephant Trax QR codes because each code is designed to connect properly with your box, item photos, item details, location, category, notes, and other saved information inside the app.
If you use your own QR code stickers, they may not work correctly unless they are compatible with the Elephant Trax QR setup process. A regular QR code may only open a link or show basic information, but it may not connect properly with your Elephant Trax box inventory.
For the best experience, use one of the supported options:
- Buy digital QR codes inside the Elephant Trax app and print them yourself.
- Buy physical QR code labels from the Elephant Trax website.
- Buy physical Elephant Trax QR code labels from Amazon.
Using supported Elephant Trax QR codes helps make sure your boxes can be scanned, assigned, searched, and managed correctly in the app.
What should I do if my QR code is not scanning?
If your QR code is not scanning in Elephant Trax, please try the steps below.
First, make sure the QR code label is clear and readable. If the label is dirty, scratched, folded, blurry, wet, or damaged, your phone camera may not be able to read it properly. Clean the label gently and try again.
Next, check your scanning environment. Scan the QR code in good lighting and avoid shadows or glare on the label. Hold your phone steady and make sure the full QR code is visible inside the camera frame. Do not scan too close or too far away. Move your phone slowly until the camera can focus clearly on the code.
Also make sure Elephant Trax has permission to use your camera. You can check this from your phone settings and allow camera access for the Elephant Trax app. Without camera permission, the app will not be able to scan QR codes.
If the QR code still does not scan, try closing and reopening the app. You can also check the App Store or Google Play Store to make sure you are using the latest version of Elephant Trax.
If the label is damaged or still cannot be scanned after trying these steps, you may need to use a new QR code label. You can assign the new QR code to the box and continue using it with your saved item and box details.
If the issue continues, please contact Elephant Trax support and share your account email address, device type, app version, and a clear photo of the QR code label if possible.
Can I assign a QR code after adding items?
Yes, you can assign a QR code after adding your items.
You can first upload item photos and add item details such as item names, notes, keywords, quantity, estimated value, brand, model, or other useful information. Once your item list is ready, go to the QR Setup step.
From there, you can select all items or choose individual items that you want to attach to a box. Then tap QR Setup and choose Assign QR Code.
After selecting this option, scan the Elephant Trax QR code label using your phone camera. You can then add or confirm box details such as box label, location, category, notes, and custom fields.
Once you save the details, the selected items will be connected to that QR code. Later, when you scan the QR code, Elephant Trax will show all saved items and box information linked with that code.
Can I remove or change a QR code from a box?
Yes, you can remove or change the QR code connected to a box.
Open the box details in Elephant Trax and choose the option to edit or update the QR code. From there, you can remove the current QR code or scan a new QR code label and assign it to the same box.
If you assign a new QR code, the box information and selected items will be connected to the new QR code. After saving, you can place the new QR code label on your physical box, bin, trunk, or storage container.
If the QR code you are trying to use is already connected to another box, Elephant Trax may show existing details linked with that QR code. You may also see a confirmation popup asking whether you want to overwrite the existing information or keep the current QR code details.
Please review everything carefully before saving changes. Overwriting QR code details may replace the previous box information connected to that QR code.
