Search & Find Items
This section helps users understand how to quickly find their saved boxes, items, and inventory details inside Elephant Trax.
How do I search for an item?
To search for an item, open the Elephant Trax app and go to the Browse page.
On the Browse page, you will see a search option. Type the item name, keyword, box label, or any saved detail related to the item you are looking for.
For example, you can search:
- “Winter jacket”
- “Phone charger”
- “Kitchen”
- “Garage tools”
- “Documents”
- “Christmas decorations”
Elephant Trax will show matching boxes or items based on the information saved in your inventory. You can also use filters to narrow down the results and find the item faster.
How does keyword search work?
Keyword search helps you find items based on the words saved with your item or box details.
When you add an item, you can add keywords or tags that describe the item. Later, when you search those words from the Browse page, Elephant Trax can show matching results.
For example, if you add keywords like:
- “charger”
- “electronics”
- “winter”
- “documents”
- “tools”
- “baby clothes”
You can search these words later to find the related items or boxes quickly.
For better search results, use simple and clear keywords that you are likely to remember later.
Why is my item not showing in search results?
If your item is not showing in search results, there may be a few reasons.
First, check that the item name or keyword was saved correctly. If the item was saved with a different spelling or different keyword, it may not appear for your current search.
Also check your filters. If a location, category, box, or item filter is active, it may hide some results. Try clearing the filters and search again.
Your item may also not appear if it was not assigned to the correct box or if the item details were not saved successfully. Open the related box or scan the QR code to confirm the item is saved there.
You can improve search results by editing the item and adding clear item names, useful keywords, notes, location, and category details.
How do I search by item name?
To search by item name, go to the Browse page and type the item name in the search field.
For example, if you saved an item as “Black Shoes,” you can search “black shoes” or “shoes.” If you saved an item as “Laptop Charger,” you can search “laptop charger” or “charger.”
ElephantTrax will show matching results based on the item name and other saved information.
For best results, use clear item names when adding items. Instead of writing only “cable,” write something more specific like “iPhone charging cable” or “HDMI cable.”
How do I search by box label?
To search by box label, open the Browse page and type the box label in the search field.
For example, you can search:
- “Garage Box 1”
- “Winter Clothes”
- “Kitchen Items”
- “Office Documents”
- “Storage Unit Box 3”
If the box label was saved correctly, Elephant Trax will show the matching box and the items connected to it.
Using clear box labels makes it easier to find your boxes later. Try to use labels that describe the box location or contents.
How do I find items by scanning a QR code?
To find items by scanning a QR code, open the ElephantTrax app and go to the Home page.
Tap Scan QR Code, then point your phone camera at the QR code label attached to your physical box, bin, trunk, or storage container.
After scanning, ElephantTrax will open the connected box details. You can view all saved information linked with that QR code, including:
- Box label
- Item photos
- Item names
- Notes
- Keywords
- Location
- Category
- Custom fields
- Other saved details
This is the fastest way to check what is inside a box without opening it.
How do I filter boxes or items?
You can filter boxes or items from the Browse page in ElephantTrax.
Filters help you narrow down your inventory and quickly find the box or item you need. Depending on the details saved in your account, you may be able to filter or search by:
- Location
- Category
- Box label
- Item name
- Item details
- Keywords
- QR code or box information
- Custom fields
- View by box
- View by image/item
For example, if you only want to see boxes stored in the garage, select the Garage location filter. If you want to see only clothing-related boxes, select the Clothes category filter.
You can also search by custom field information if you have added custom fields to your boxes or items. For example, if you created custom fields like Serial Number, Warranty Expiry Date, Owner Name, or Storage Type, you can use that saved information to help find the correct box or item.
You can also combine search and filters. For example, you can search “charger” and filter by Office to find chargers stored in office boxes, or search by a custom field value to quickly locate a specific item.
What is the difference between viewing by box and viewing by image/item?
Elephant Trax gives you different ways to view your inventory.
View by Box shows your inventory grouped by boxes, bins, trunks, or storage containers. This is useful when you want to see what is stored inside a specific box or manage box-level details like QR code, location, category, and notes.
View by Image/Item shows individual item photos or item entries. This is useful when you want to visually browse items or search for a specific item without first opening a box.
Example:
If you want to find “Garage Box 1,” use View by Box.
If you want to find a “red jacket” or “phone charger,” View by Image/Item may be more useful.
Both views help you organize and find your inventory in different ways.
How do I find items stored in a specific location?
To find items stored in a specific location, go to the Browse page and use the location filter.
Select the location where you want to search, such as:
- Garage
- Basement
- Attic
- Bedroom
- Office
- Storage Unit
- Closet
After selecting the location, Elephant Trax will show the boxes or items assigned to that location.
You can also combine the location filter with search. For example, select “Garage” and search “tools” to find tools stored in garage boxes.
How do I improve search results by adding better keywords?
You can improve search results by adding clear and useful keywords when creating or editing items and boxes.
Use words that describe the item clearly and match how you may search for it later.
For example:
Instead of: “Cable”
Use: “iPhone charging cable,” “USB-C cable,” or “HDMI cable”
Instead of: “Clothes”
Use: “winter clothes,” “baby clothes,” or “summer shirts”
Instead of: “Documents”
Use: “tax documents,” “passport copies,” or “insurance papers”
You can also add keywords related to item type, room, season, brand, purpose, or storage location.
Good keywords help Elephant Trax show better search results and make it easier to find your items later without opening every box.
